You may look at it carefully to see if there are any words on it like, "Promotional Purposes Only, Do Not Cash" or some such.
If you don't see anything obvious like that, feel free to take it to your bank. Believe me, if it's not real, they won't cash it.

I was sent a check and was told it was a promotional drawing for using my debit card at one of the above stores. Is this a scam? Yes it is. If anyone has received a check from AIG or any other major insurance group, immediately report the information to your local authorities. I received a check, myself, and was skeptical. I went to the AIG homepage, looked under the sub-page Fraud Warning, and read through. they had examples posted of fraudulent checks, which i checked against the one I had, and everything matched up evenly. I then reported it to the authorities. Whatever you do, DO NOT CASH THE CHECK IN WHATSOEVER!!! IT IS A PHONY!
