I know this might seem to be a stupid question but what will happen if you use your psp without a battery cover?

Apart from a chance that the battery may get knocked out of place and make the PSP switch off, nothing special will happen. The cover is there to keep the battery in place - if it's not there, the battery may get dislodged.
