I need 220 volts for an air conditioner but am getting 249 volts is that a problem?

i would check with another meter to make sure meter is reading right first if the reading is the same with another meter .you need to call power company there transformer has gone bad this could to cause damage to other white goods in your house be damage by have to high of voltage
