I would like to adapt the short story I Have No Mouth And I Must Scream by Harlan Ellison for an indie movie with my friends we are only in the seventh grade what should I do about copyrights?

If you don't intend to post it on YouTube, but simply to show it to your classroom as a film experiment, Ellison would probably say: "Don't use my title, but call it something like 'The Metal Book of Job' (which means you would have to read the Old Testament story "The Book of Job", if you already haven't), and make up your own characters, then have fun. " It's essentially "The Odyssey" in its darker sections, where Ulysses is trapped by Circe or the Cyclops, but, unlike that hero, the narrator of "i have no mouth..." never gets free of his captor.
