Would be to make sure that cables aren't damaged and that your not going to get an electric shock off of it, also to make sure that the correct fuse is being used in the plugs or that the plug sockets are not being overloaded with to many plugs.

Hot to ground how much volts?

The answer to this question depends entirely on which electrical system you are asking about: if it is a vehicle, the voltage could be 6 volts, 12 volts, 24 volts or even higher, such as the 600 to 1200 volts systems used to power the motors of some electric trains. For information about voltages used for household electrical services in different countries, please see the answer to the Related Question shown below.

Why are a range of voltages used?

Several reasons for different voltages. At the heart of it is that to deliver the same power, voltage and current are inversely related. The other aspect is safety. So for the grid, high voltages are used to maximize power transmission within the current limits of the cables. In industrial environments, equipment may require a lot of power - that requires high voltages as well Domestic requirements are not so power-hungry so 120 or 240 volts are adequate, and are also safer (well... less dangerous) than higher voltages.

What is the electrical impedance of air?

Electical impedance of air is just under 377 Ohms. It depends on humidity and other factors. Dry air is close to free space. Scroll down to related links and look at "Characteristic impedance of free space ".

What happens in an electrical generator?

To state it in the simplest terms, wires are caused to pass through magnetic fields. As a result, voltages are generated in the wires. That being said there are alternative ways of look at it. Look at Wikipedia.org's article on induction for the principle at the heart of it all. Refer to the related link in the Related Links section below.

What is the electrical voltage from the house outlet to the computer power supply?

In the U.S.A., 110VAC is the usual household receptacle voltage where lamps, TV's etc are connected and the computer, printer & related devices are also connected. Other countries may have different operating voltages required for computers.

What would be the 3 phase voltage on a frequency of 50 Hz?

Single phase and three phase voltages are not related to the frequency at which the voltage is generated. The frequency at which voltages are generated is governed by the speed of rotation of the generating device.
