RAD is a measure of concentration, whereby 1 RAD is the amount of energy absorbed by 1 gram of tissue. REM(roentgen-equivalent man) is derived by multiplying RAD by a known 'quality factor' Q. Q is dependant upon the type of radiation used. X-Rays generally have a Q of 1. REM=RAD*QFor X-rays, REM=1RAD*1, therefore 1 REM=1 RAD (using x-rays). The value will be different using different radiation. For alpha particles, (where Q=20) 1 RAD= 20 REM
