Finland was on Axis side from 1941 to 1944 when peace was made with Russia. German troops were also positioned in Finland during that time. From autumn 1944 to 1945 Finland was in war with Germany (War of Lapland, and also Battle of Suursaari island) Finland wanted to take back the land they lost during the winter war, and with the German invasion of Russia the finns saw their chance.
