God established a special relationship with Abraham (Genesis ch.12 and ch.17) because Abraham had, from his earliest years, chosen to serve God and preach against idolatry (before having received any sign from God). So when the Egyptians cruelly enslaved Abraham's Israelite descendants and killed their babies (Exodus ch.1), God took action.
