Their bodies and minds are not designed to live forever. If people lived forever, the planet would be overcrowded in no time. It took us a long time for people to have an average lifespan of 75 years, with some people living to be 100, or in case of a French woman, 120 years old. The sun will go nova someday and burn up the earth. Nothing last forever. Nothing lives forever. Sooner or later we all have to die. That is the way the universe works. However, there are still a lot of unanswered questions by scientists that may lead a reasonable person to doubt whether we can live forever or not. If there is a Creator, and you believe The Bible, the reason we do not live forever is because of imperfection (in our physical bodies) that will be fixed by our Great Designer (God) and, as long as we exercise faith in Jesus Christ sacrifice (the greatest gift to humankind) our redeemer, we can be saved (live forever).

Not sure why the above ends in a sermon that starts with a conditional opinion then tells us God has cocked up human "design" - if so, he's taking a long time to put us right! More seriously, you don't need to be a scientist or for that matter religious, to know that no living organism or natural feature lasts forever. That's not a matter of doubt!

If Adam and Eve had not sinned and ate the fruit of the tree God told them not to eat, we would be living forever. However, Satan the serpent told them to eat it, and they did. The worst sin ever, period.

No, the physical being of people does not live on forever, but there are those that believe the soul or spirit of a human lives on forever and cannot ever die.
