Not really. To lose weight, you need to eat less food and get more exercise. The less fat and sugar and carbohydrates you eat the better. Eat more vegetables and fruits. Eating healthier and less and burning more calories than consuming, is the best way to lose weight.

Fats have 9 calories per gram. If one eats a typical low-cal diet with about 55 grams of fat, about 495 of the 1650 calories are coming from fats. That leaves room for 60 grams of protein (270 cal.) and about 220 grams of carbs. That is a typical balance (for that weight) just to be stable.

You must have a deficiency in your diet of about 3,500 calories to lose a pound of fat. So if one reduces the 1650 calories to 1300 daily, a gradual loss of one pound per 10 days will be expected. That means cutting out half the fat (27 grams, 243 calories) and 27 grams of carbs (108 calories) each day for gradual, sustainable weight loss.

If your starting weight is more or less than 150 pounds, these figures will need some adjustment. Pay attention in math class; those ratios, proportions, and all that can be applied to real life!
