Catholics (all Christians) worship Jesus BECAUSE he was a jew... As such it is the Christian belief that He is the promised Messiah of God, as fortold by the prophets. Jesus (the Jew) is the beginning of the new order, the new covenant... and the messiah will lead all people to the one true God. Is 60 1-3

Christianity is not a Jewish religion. God's way of salvation through Jesus Christ is open to all who believe. God had chosen the nation of Israel as the people He would use to reveal Himself to the world and therefore Jesus was a Jew. God could have used the French or the Chinese or any other nation.

Jesus made it clear He did not come to add to the existing Jewish religious system He came as a mediator of a 'new and living way' through which people can be reconciled to God

Mat 9:16,17 No one puts a piece of unshrunk cloth on an old garment; for the patch pulls away from the garment, and the tear is made worse. Nor do they put new wine into old wineskins, or else the wineskins break, the wine is spilled, and the wineskins are ruined. But they put new wine into new wineskins, and both are preserved."

Heb 10:19,20 Therefore, brethren, having boldness to enter the Holiest by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way which He consecrated for us, through the veil, that is, His flesh,

A Christian is a new creation and does not have to become a Jew.

All the first Catholics who believed in Jesus were Jewish, but Jesus came for all, so Peter and Paul, his disciples, invited non-Jews to the Christian faith. Eventually the Jews who believed in Jesus left the church as their customs were not being followed.
