Baptism isn't a "Christian phenomenon"... it's an outward show of faithful repentance toward the Creator for having disobeyed His laws... which is what sin is - I John 3:4.

When Jesus was baptized, He was baptized with the Holy Spirit, and with the Spirit came power. Jesus never performed any miracles before he was baptized.
