If On my 88 Camry the charge and the brake lights on the dashboard to light up simultaneously while i drive can you suggest what the prblem may be. it stays for some time and goes off?

I have the same problem with my 89 Camry. The alternator is not charging (the charging circuit is broken). I tested the system with a 12 volt meter. Then I noticed that the alternator had dust on it from the internal bushing being worn so I tapped on it and the system worked again and the lights on the dash went out. I blew out the alternator with compressed air and it took care of the problem... for now. I know that the alternator will have to be replaced eventually...... but it's been 5 years and it has only happened 3 times. When all the lights on the dash remain on I know that it is a charging problem.
