If he did it in front of class. Probably. Accepting friends request online is the norm these days. So his need to broadcast it to the whole class is him bragging that you and him are definitely more than acquaintences.

Just hold your cursor over the "Friend Request Sent" button and wait for the box to pop up. Then select cancel request. Not sure if they will be notified that you canceled it?

Do you mean their personal accounts? You just add them the way you would everyone else, if they accept your request...then they are in your friend list. I have Nick and Joe Jonas as my friends on Facebook and they both accepted it :D

The only way to know if your friend request has been declined is to request to be their friend again. If it lets you re-request, then they denied your friend request.
