There is no state law which requires one to give two weeks notice before leaving a job. However, if, when hired for that job, you signed a contract stating you would give at least two weeks notice if you left the position, the company could sue you for breach of contract if you leave without giving two weeks notice. But for most jobs, it's simply a matter of professional courtesy to give at least two weeks notice prior to leaving a job.

Personally, if not currently employed I would list "immediately". If currently employed, I would select a date that is at least 2 weeks in the future - allowing adequate notice to the current employer. I think that the new employer would like to know that if you are hired and then find a new job, you would at least give the old job an advance notice that you are leaving and will be available to train your replacement.
how quickly the employer can resolve the problem of your leaving
To give notice is a verb, like to cook dinner. If I want to know how you arranged your main meal yesterday, you could say "I cooked dinner". If you are in the process of moving, I might ask "Did you talk to your current landlord?" Your answer might be "I gave notice yesterday." If the apartment is rented by a couple, then they gave notice would be appropriate. But it is a verb in every sense. The answer might be "I (or they) will give notice next week."
Give him/her something to notice
