Ice actually is denser than water. Like anything less denser than water, ice actually does float on water. The density of ice is 920 kg m-3 whereas the maximum density of water is 1000 kg m-3.

If an object's density is is less than that of the fluid what will happen?

it will float providing it is in that fluidIt will float on the surface of the fluid.

What would happen if you put something less dense then water into water what would happen if you put something just as dense as water into water and what would happen if you put something more dense?

-- It would float in the water, with part of it above the surface. -- It would hang just below the surface, or at whatever depth you placed it. -- It would sink down through the water like a rock.

Is liquid water more dense than ice water?

yes liquid water is more dense than ice water

Is Liquid water less dense or more dense?

Liquid water is more dense than ICE , and More dense than water vapour(steam). Liquid water is at its most dense at 2 oC. Water on freezing to ice expands by about 10% of its volume. This is because of the lattice arrangement of water molecules in ice., which does not occur in liquid water., Hence ice floats on water. (icebergs).

Is an ice cube more dense or less dense than liquid water?

Less dense. For most substances, the solid form is more dense than the liquid form; water is a notable exception.Less dense. What is Most dense form of water?

Under normal conditions, such as the range of conditions on the surface of the Earth in which people live, water is most dense in the liquid phase, at 4° C.

What happens to an object when it is placed in a less dense liquid or gas?

The density of the object goes through the less denser liquids until it gets to a liquid that is more dense than it. The first liquid that is denser than the object, the object will float on the liquid. My class did this in Science Class.

Is liquid water less dense than ice cubes?

No. Liquid water is more dense. This is why ice cubes float on liquid water.

Does adding water to a liquid make it less dense?

That depends on the specific situation. Assuming the liquids just mix, and don't have some other reaction: * Adding water to a liquid that is denser than water will result in a liquid that is less dense (than the liquid that is not water). * Adding water to a liquid that is less dense than water will result in a liquid that is more dense.

What is the density of water in the solid state compared to that in the liquid state?

Ice has about 91.5% of the density of water. It floats because it is less dense than water.

Which state of water allows fish to remain in a lake when winter temperatures are below 0C?

Water expands as it freezes so becomes less dense than liquid water. Ice floats to the surface leaving liquid water (for fish to swim in) below the surface ice.

Is a ice cube more or less dense than liquid water?

Ice cubes are less dense than liquid water, which is why they float.

In what phase of matter is water the most dense?

Water is the most dense in its liquid form.
