First of all, "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God". God existed before anything and everything else, including time, space, matter, and all other life. There has never been just nothing in space, as God has always existed. "Without Him, nothing that was made was made". The Bible (including the records of creation in Genesis and in the Gospel of John) is not a fable told to kids for amusement. Christ Himself told parables to children not to waste their time, but to present the truth in such a way as to allow the children to grasp it at their level. Christ said that once we were given milk to drink, as we were not yet ready to handle the meat, but that is the goal of the Christian (which is a type of monontheistic deist).
