You know the old saying : "If you love something, set it free"
Which means, if there's a reason a person shouldn't be with another person, that other person will leave her/him because he/she loves him/her.
And, about being mean, a person will get over the partner that left them easier if they are mad at them. Otherwise, they would be depressed and sad all the time.

Well hun, if he loves you, then why would he love someone else? Or why would he love you if he loves someone else? Just think, if he truly loves someone, he wouldn't love another person even if he shows it or not. So, he might be lying, sorry to say.
