Yes, there was. The US had 3 atomic bombs at that time; Two of them were used.
They attacked Japan with the Atomic Bomb and then they told them that they had to surrender or they would drop another atomic bomb. The Japanese refused to surrender and they dropped another one. This killed more than 200,000 Japanese. Finally Japan had surrendered.
The plan to end the war was to bomb with nuclear bombs with 3 days in between until they surrendered.
Because it wasn't ready. Germany surrendered May 8, 1945; the first atomic device was test exploded July 16, 1945.
Japan.
The first was dropped on Hiroshima, and three days later another was dropped on the city of Nagasaki, killing another 79,000. (Five days after that, Japan surrendered.)
World war 2 started in Hawaii when the Japanese surprise attacked us. The Japanese wanted to take over the world, they attacked us an after we controlled that battle, we told them to surrender (which is dishonorable to surrender without your life being taken in Japan) so they refused, we had three nuclear bombs ready to drop, one by one they were taken and dropped, they surrendered after the second bomb was dropped
When they're ready
Because Japan had attacked Pearl harbor & we were not ready for such an invasion such as that one & also because it was to slow the Japanese down from trying to attack the Us again.
VJ day
The war was not over. Without the bombs it was expected to last another whole year if not longer, costing over a million combat casualties on each side. Dropping the two atomic bombs we had ready right then ended the war four days later instead of a year. The US had another MK-III Fat Man type bomb ready four days after Japan surrendered, so it was not used. We had 20 more after that scheduled in the production pipeline for 1945 (no idea about 1946), if Japan refused to surrender.
There were no more bombs dropped over Japan because they surrendered.
It was not a battle it was at the appomattox court house. Lee surrendered and had to drop his weapons and leave in peace.
