Why doesn't a weed eater stay running when the battery is being recharged?

Because the weed eater gets its power from the battery, not the charging unit. The charging unit most likely does not have enough amps to run the unit, whereas the battery does after a full charge.

If the battery is dead will the alternator charge it?

Once the car is started if the alternator is working it will charge the battery, but the battery may not take the charge or may not hold it. Batteries don't last forever. There should be a sticker on the side of the battery or the top with a letter/number like A/7 which stand for January or 07. That will let you know how old the battery is. Most parts stores will check the battery for free to see if it will hold a charge. If you were to push start a car with a completely dead battery (where the lights have been left on for two days), it won't start. With a boost though, it should start, if the alternator is good. This is because the alternator does not have magnets in it to create the magnetic field (like a generator) it needs to start charging. Normally a battery won't be completely dead, just dead enough to not start the car, but the little bit of power left in the battery is enough to give the alternator the field it needs to start charging. Normally it is always better to boost a battery than push start a car. When boosting a dead battery, the cables should be clamped on for 5 minutes with the boosting vehicle running before trying to start the dead one. This is to allow the dead battery to get partially charged to help with starting the vehicle. Before trying to start the vehicle being boosted, turn off the boosting vehicle (to avoid frying its computer), but leave the cables on, then start the dead one. Once it starts, remove the cables, and let it run (at least 15 minutes in the summer, 30 minutes in the winter) to charge the battery. Double that time if the heater or headlights are on. The reason the alternator was able to start charging was because it drew power from the boosting vehicle battery to create the field it needed even if the battery was completely dead. If this is a persistent problem, it could be the battery, check the terminals to ensure a good connection. If they are good, have the battery load tested, this will tell you if you need a new one. Normally a battery is good for 5 years, less if it has been run dead too many times.

Why doesn't running hurt for me?

It does not hurt because you are not running hard enough. You have to exert yourself.

On a F-450 will using the flashers when the vehicle is not running cause it to not start the next?

2005 escape engine dies with battery light on?

Bad alternator- not charging battery enough to keep vehicle running check with a volt meter A fully charged battery should read approx. 12.8 volts without engine running With engine running should read approx. 13.8-14.2 volts

Why would the battery gauge drop while car is running?

If it is your voltmeter that drops while the vehicle is running. Most likely the alternator isn't putting out enough volts.

Can a loose positive battery cable prevent the alternator from charging the batter and can it cause a battery drain while the engine is not running?

Yes, a loose battery cable will prevent the alternator from charging the battery. The drain on the battery is not caused by the engine not running unless an accessory is left on. Most likely, the drain is caused by accessories (radio, lights, etc) while the engine is running due to the battery not receiving its charge from the alternator and then not having enough charge left to start the engine.

Can you take the power for car lights straight from a car battery?

When your lights are on and your engine is not running you are taking the power for your car lights directly from your battery. If you leave them on long enough, you will run down your battery and your car will not start. Then you will need a jump.

Dodge van shuts off when you slow down and put the brakes on?

Couple possible things. I had a bad battery that wouldn't hold enough of a charge to run the engine when you stopped (because the engine wouldn't be running fast enough to charge it). Or, idle air control valve.

How to start a 2000 Toyota Solara after the battery has gone down?

Jump start it from another vehicle or charge the battery. If the battery is bad, replace it. If you jump start it and the battery is dead you will have to wait about 15 minutes with the jump car running and connected to the dead battery, in order to build the battery up enough for it to actually take a jump.
