You need a scan tool to read fault codes.
Because the computer has detected a fault and turned it on.
Code 54-No cam signal at the PCM-No camshaft position sensor signal detected during engine cranking.
http://www.knizefamily.net/minimopar/fault/index.html there
Trouble Code P1294 means:Target idle not reached
Trouble code P0441 means: EVAP Purge Flow Monitor Fault
if you don't have a obd2 scanner you cannot extract codes. try pep boys, sears to buy a code reader or some parts house like auto zone may read the code for you good luck
An engine light check means some fault in the engine . Check the handbook to get more details to find what and where the fault is.
Trouble Code P1494 means:Leak detection pump pressure switch or mechanical fault
P0442 Evaporative Emission Control System Leak Detected (small leak)
Turn the ignition key to battery on/off three times. The third time you leave the battery power on and read the check engine light. It will blink the first number of the code, pause, then blink the second number of the code. I.E. a code 35 will blink the engine check light three times then pause then another five times. It will pause again and blink another code if such. At the end, it will code a 55 or end of test code. This will let you know that all the fault codes have been displayed and the test is over. Haynes manuals have the codes in them for reference. I used to get EVAP and O2 sensor codes on my '97 Stratus. I just ignored them even tho the check engine light was on for some time then would go out. Periodically they'd come back on for a while and then go out, recording the fault code into the computer. Good Luck. Rod. On a 1997 you will probably need a scan tool.
you need to have the check engine/service engine soon fault codes read to determine what the fault is.
I would check for any fault codes first with an obd tool, is the check engine light on?
