The answer is in the question. The reason you see your friend is not because your friend is glowing on her/his own. You see light reflecting off of your friend's body. It's the same with the moon. When you are in darkness and you turn on a flashlight, you see things because the light you shine on them reflects back to you. You see the light that the moon reflects from the sun.

By using a total lunar eclipse, and also using what you know about the moon's cycles. If the moon glows for some reason other than reflected sunlight, then why does it not glow at new moon, or during a total lunar eclipse? What other explanation would work better for the changing lunar cycle?

You see the sun because there are processes going on inside it that generate light,

like a lamp in the middle of the room.

You see the moon and planets because the sun shines on them, like the floor, walls

and furniture in the room where the lamp is.

Go outside during any day or night when the sky isn't cloudy, and look up.

If it's daytime, then you can see the sun for sure, and often the moon. If it's

night-time, then you can see the stars for sure, sometimes a few planets,

and often the moon.

The sun is easily visible in the daytime- just look up. The same goes for the moon during the night.

Because if it's between the Earth and the Sun, doesn't that mean that it is daytime on the side the moon is on?
