It is because the sun is a very holy object. Since vampires are antichrists, it burns their soul. That is PAINFUL. The moon is a reflection of the sun, and is still holy, but since vampires draw power from darkness, the darkness protects them.
No, the Moon generates no light of its own. However, it reflects the light of the Sun, so when you see moonlight you are actually seeing reflected sunlight.(They apparently didn't think about that when they created the vampire legends. If sunlight kills vampires and moonlight is just reflected sunlight, why doesn't moonlight kill vampires, too?)
The Moon doesn't shine at all. This is what bothers me about vampire movies; sunlight kills vampires, but moonlight doesn't affect them. And yet, the Moon is just a giant mirror in the sky reflecting SUNLIGHT back to the Earth! Why wouldn't the vampires all die of the reflected sunlight, that's what I want to know! Anyway, moonlight is simply reflected sunlight.
they actually don't they enjoy the sunlight!
In my opinion the sun doesn't kill vampires. I suppose the moon wouldn't kill them as it is covering up the sun - although it is reflected off it - and also because it isn't sunny as its dark during the night.
Vampires are considered to be the undead. Since they are not living beings, they cannot be reflected. Plus their pale skin reflects the sunlight too and shines brightly.

it really depends. some vampires (Twilight, Darren Shan, and Moonlight vampires) keep their human name.
vampires disintegrate when hit by sunlight
The sun comes out in the day. The day was meant for humans, the living. Vampires are technachly half dead so they can't come out. They also still have a brain and can think for themselves, which makes them different from zombies. Another thing is, that humans could see them and could run for help or whatever, in the day. At night, when there's only moonlight, humans can't see as well so vampires can get their food. That's just how they were re-made.
