No, there is currently no cure for RSD but some things have been proven to decrease and possibly stop the pain. Physical therapy is the best treatment for RSD because it gets the limb moving again. For many people physical therapy helps improve the pain although it takes a long time to see results. The more exercise you get, the faster you get better. With this type of chronic pain it's really no pain no gain. Another important thing in the treatment of RSD is desensitization. This involves rubbing all different textures (no matter how painful it may be) on the affected limb. This helps it get used to the different textures and hopefully the nerve will stop sending pain signals to the area. Cognitive behavioral therapy is also an important step in treting RSD. This amount of pain can cause stress and depression so seeing a psychologist may be helpful. These are the three main treatments for RSD but there are others including nerve blocks, spinal cord stimulators, and medication. Heat provides some relief for most RSD patients so staying warm and having a heating pad or blanket can be helpful but everybody is different so it is important to see what works for you.
