Newer cars have coil for each spark plugs the spark plug wire plug directly into coil then check starter and battery coil should get spark when starting car. New comment. Most now if not all modern cars with spark ignition engines have an ignition system which is computer controlled. When you suspect a fault with the ignition system the first thing to do is plug a code reader into the diagnostic socket. If you have not got one, contact a garage for advice. The codes normally start with PO3XXX, there are a vast array of codes, so it is not worth writing them here otherwise a book would be written? Modern vehicle electronics don't like voltmeters either, the signals generated cannot always be investigated by these old methods? Most diagnostics are now carried out using a Lab Scope, this is essencially a visual voltmeter, but can pick up signals which a voltmeter would miss. With a modern ignition system the DIY are limited to checking and changing ignition components, if this does not solve the problem, then professional advice will need to be sought. Check in this order, plug wire - distributor - coil - power coming to the coil .
how would you go about changing the spark plugs in a 1999 Lexus ES 300?
That would be very rare.
For the stock XP Iridium spark plugs the gapping is .051, I would suggest not changing the stock spark plugs until your warranty has expired. Mazda tried giving me crap for changing mine.
Try changing spark plugs. Blow out dirt around plugs first.
Yes.
I would start with changing the spark plugs, air filter, fuel filter. I would also try a couple of bottles of fuel injector cleaner, and dry gas.
start with dist cap and rotor
It could just be a bad spark plug wire or the spark plugs need changing.
the engine is constantly vibrating and it dislodges the spark plugs
it could be a number of things...im no diesel mechanic but check your spark plugs and spark plugs wires, it seems your battery is ok if the car turns over...it may not be firing if the car doesnt start...so my 1st guess would be to check if ur getting any spark at the spark plugs there is only glow plugs not spark plugs. were talken bout a diesel right?
This is a very general answer, as I don't know what "running bad" means. I would start by changing the oil filter and filling it with new oil. I find that quaker state is the best. Next, I would change the spark plugs. Bad spark plugs and low oil can often cause a car to jerk and shake whether your driving or just idling.
I would recommend the OEM spark plugs, AC/Delco. Excellent plugs.
