It depends where in Jamaica you are going. From the airport in Montego Bay it is about 55 miles or one hour and fifteen minutes to the Resort area of Negril. If you are going to Ocho Rios it's about an hour in the other direction (45 miles). If you are going to Port Antonio it is more conveniant to fly into Kingston airport and then travel for about 2 hours transiting the east side of the island to reach that destination.
To fly from Boston, MA to Kingston, Jamaica is a distance of 1,717 miles.
It would be much better to fly into Montego Bay (Sangster International Airport) if you are going to Ocho Rios. The Kingston Airport (Norman Manley International) is really in Port Royal Jamaica and you will have to drive (or taxi) nearly 20 miles just to get into Kingston. From there you will go thru Spanish Town than catch the A1 which takes you across the island into Ocho Rios. About seventy five miles altogether. The good news is that we have just opened up a toll highway between Kingston and Spanish Town and this will take the worse part of the trip away.
You can fly into Flagstaff Airport if going to the Grand Canyon
If you are a US Citizen no Passport is required for Puerto Rico, but it is required for Jamaica.
A flight to Jamaica from the UK (using London as an example), will fly southwest out of London, then over south-west England before approaching the Atlantic Ocean, and then the flight will mainly fly over the Atlantic Ocean before descending into Kingston, Jamaica.

Many airlines fly from Africa to the Caribbeans. British Airways and Iberia offer two-leg flights, where you first fly from Africa to a European hub (e.g. London Heathrow), and then to the Caribbeans (say Kingston, Jamaica). An alternative is to get from Africa to a United States airport (flights via many airlines) and then go with Air Jamaica to the Caribbeans. Please see the related links for details.
