Okay. So you want to be a vegetarian? Starshine the experienced veggie has a guide for you.

1. Motives- One really important thing to think about is your motives. Do you want to be a vegetarian because it's trendy or because a PETA video you watched five minutes ago scared you? Trying vegetarianism with motives like these may make your life harder than it needs to be and lower your self-esteem if things don't work out.

On the other hand, if this is something you have been considering for a while, and you know your intentions are genuine, you will have the motivation to stick to your new diet.

2. Be Prepared- Make sure that you are prepared to cut meat out of your diet. Are you considering possible disapproval of your family or friends? Even though reasons like a possible deficiency of B vitamins or protein may not persuade you to give up on going veggie, they are important to consider before making a commitment.

Make sure you realize how you will get protein, iron, ect. in your diet. Try vegetarian meals and familiarize yourself with vegetables.

3. Be Informed- Realize that as a vegetarian, you will have to cut out marshmallows and leather shoes.(this is really for vegans) Make sure you know which foods are vegetarian and which are not. Do research to see whether health benefits and disadvanges would change your mind. Talk to your doctor.

4. Don't Rush It- Try it out for a day, first. See if you think you could handle a meatless diet forever. Afterwards. especially if you eat a lot of meat every day, try to cut out little bits at a time. Try longer and longer periods without meat if you really love it and find it hard to quit. But if you aren't that attached to non-vegetarian foods, it might be easiest to quit cold-turkey.

5. Don't Be Discouraged at First- Some people quit immediately because of some concerns. For example, when I first started, I worried because I sometimes almost forgot that I was a vegetarian or had odd cravings for bacon even though I don't like it that much. But later, it seems natural to avoid meat, so I can't really see my self eating it, and I don't even remember the taste of bacon. These things may take a month or two to settle, so be patient.

Also, if your friends and family keep bugging you about it and asking you super-annoying questions, even nearly forcing you to eat meat, tell them to stop, but give them a little while to get over it. I found this very aggravating at first, but it has almost totally disappeared.

6. Be Positive- Don't give veggies a bad name. Start off on a good note by telling people who ask about it your honest reasons, and avoid bringing the topic up with people you don't really know. Saying, "Hi, I'm Sarah. I'm a vegetarian" or looking at people's turkey with disgust will make more and more people think you (and I) are "holier-than-thou," and will perpetuate "do you mind if I eat meat at this table" comments.

So, if you have read all of these guidelines and are sure you want to go veggie, go for it! There are plenty of people who will give you good advice if you need it, and vegetarianism may improve your health and help you discover new foods!

There are different types of vegetarian, vegetarians do not eat meat. But some allow themselves to eat dairy products and/or eggs.

Stop eating meat! There are great books on the subject. Replace meat with nuts, seeds, whole grains, beans, vegetables.

To be a vegan, a very strict type of vegetarian, you have to avoid all products that contain any traces of animals (including shellfish and fish). The obvious meat is an easy thing to avoid but there are tons of other things like rennet (enzymes from the stomachs of cows i.e. cheese), Gelatin (boiled fish bones, or tendons i.e. yogurt/candy/marshmallows) and carmine (beetle juice used as a dye i.e. juice/candy). Medicine is also a thing to look out for, capsules contain gelatin and some pills contain carmine. Just look up information that you read on labels, and decide how extreme you want to go.

The best, and easiest, way to become a vegetarian is to go step by step. For maybe 2 weeks, cut out a specific meat product. Like red meat, for example. Get rid of it in your house. The next few weeks, cut out another type of meat, like poultry. Continue doing this with things like pork, veal, and fish, until - after a few months - you have adjusted your lifestyle to not eating meat. By using this steady but efficient time span, your body can get used to the new diet change. You will also have time to re-stock your kitchen, and learn new meals and foods that you like and can have as a vegetarian.

By the way, there are vegan marshmallows... but check the ingredients on the package (nix the gelatin)
One of the best tips I can give you is gradually take meat out of your diet. And be sure you have money for vitamins and other things to give you the nutrients you need that you can't get without the meat.
Get a good book on how to eat vegetarian. If you don't eat right, then it will be very hard to be a vegetarian. Learn why. If you can read the book or watch the video Diet For A New America you can educate yourself about all the good reasons to become a vegetarian. Hang out with other vegetarians; they will be supportive and turn you on to some great food or great reasons not to slaughter animals. Check out the organization PETA--People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals.

The more you learn about the environmental impact of our food choices; the politics of food, and economic justice, the more motivated you will be to commit yourself to this way of living.

Another book I recommend is The Higher Taste which also discusses the spiritual benefits of being vegetarian. If you can develop a "higher taste"--enjoy a lifestyle that is better in every way to a violence-based lifestyle, you can leave your desires for meat behind!
Gradually reduce your meat consumption by giving up a certain kind of meat (e.g. pork), and then eliminating other kinds of meat from your diet. This might take you several weeks or even a few months. Keep your goals in perspective. Don't think of this as missing out on foods you like, but as embracing a healthy and compassionate lifestyle. You may eventually reach the point where you want to stop eating eggs and dairy products. Soybeans and peanuts are complete proteins, and combining other beans with grains will increase the available complete proteins necessary for human life. It doesn't take much extra knowledge or effort than the motivation to be vegetarian.
Stop eating meat! There are great books on the subject. Replace meat with nuts, seeds, whole grains, beans, vegetables.
The tastiness of food comes from the nutrients that our body needs, therefore, if you want to not eat meat, I would suggest researching alternatives for your diet. Because there are things that can only be obtained from animal meat, unless you know otherwise.

Can vegetarian people become a chef?

If they want to they can as long as they dont mind cooking the meat. if they have a problem cooking it then it will be harder for them to become one.Another answer:Anyone can become a chef if they truly desire to become one. It doen't really matter if the person is a vegetarian or not. As the above answer states, if the vegetarian has a problem actually preparing/cooking meat products, they may have a slightly harder time, but the culinary school they attend may have special accomodations for people who have a problem handling meat products.
