Yes, you can edit ANY category on the site, if you are a supervisor, as long as you don't upset another supervisor, but they should be glad for the help.

Do category supervisors oversee sub-categories of a category that they supervise?

Typically a category supervisor who manages a category with limited subcategories will help to manage those as well. (For example, the category supervisor for "Israel" might also look into "Tel Aviv".) However, a category supervisor that looks over a larger category does not often examine subcategories. (For example, the category supervisor for "History" probably does not read over every single question in the various subcategories.)

What is a Senior Supervisor?

A senior supervisor, also known as a "seasoned supervisor" is responsible for a top-level category (i.e. the main category) and has the task of coordinating with all the supervisors in the subcategories. Typically, senior supervisors are given advanced powers, though not all have this power.

Can Floating Supervisors focus mainly on one category?

Yes, they can. Although in such a case, it's recommended that you consult with the current supervisor to see what he/she needs help with. Also, if the category is unsupervised, we hope that they'll become that category's supervisor.

Is it possible for a change of supervisor?

Yes, it is. Supervising a category is entirely volunteer. A supervisor may request to be taken off of that category. A category may also have more than one supervisor.

How do you become something other than a contributor?

You can e-mail WikiAnswers @ Answers.com (no spaces) asking to be either a category supervisor or floating supervisor. To be a category supervisor you should be knowledgeable about the category. Becoming a floating supervisor is a good way to start off. You can also post a message on Brave3's message board. He can promote you too. For more information, see the Related Link.

What do category supervisors have to do to become a senior supervisor?

Category supervisors have to be nominated either by another supervisor or by a CA and then are reviewed by a pannel of CAs to determine if they feel you deserve to be promoted to becoming a Senior Supervisor. Senior Supervisors supervise top level categories on WikiAnswers and some also have additional tools they can use on the site.

Can a Supervisor be promoted to an even higher level?

A Supervisor can become an Advanced Supervisor and get more tools, but they are not "higher" than regular Supervisors. They can also become a Senior Supervisor, but they don't get additional powers.

Why do you keep you first Supervisor badge when you get the Senior Supervisor badge?

Senior Supervisors are still regular Supervisors. The only difference is that they just oversee a top-level category. Some Supervisors may also supervise categories that are not part of their top-level category.

What working conditions do Supervisors on WikiAnswers have?

Supervisors do not work at WikiAnswers as their career, it is a privilege that they have gained, for several reasons. Any contributor can become a Supervisor, this is true, but, it takes somebody with talent, who is intelligent, open-minded, and ready to do more on WikiAnswers, to become a Supervisor. Contributors wishing to become Supervisors can either send an email to WikiAnswers, or let an existing Supervisor/Mentor know, and they may help you to become a Supervisor. Being a Supervisor works the same way as a Contributor, you don't go to an office to work, you don't get paid, you can use WikiAnswers at your leisure, the only difference between a Contributor and a Supervisor, is the power, and the extra abilities Supervisors have. Supervisors are just like contributors who login from their personal PCs and use the website. The website does not provide any specific facilities for supervisors to logon to the site. However, there are extra tools available on the menus. Supervisors participate out of their own interest towards the site. One fast track to becoming a supervisor is The Initiates Program (TIP). Other programs like SPA (Special Project Assistants) will help get you there, but they may take longer. Once you are a supervisor, there are promotion pathways. Everyone starts as a probationary floating supervisor. Once you finish the required mentoring after becoming a supervisor, you will be a regular floating supervisor, unless you pick up one or more categories to supervise and become a category supervisor. Category supervisors gain an additional tool for everywhere, and other tools for the categories they supervise. So you don't lose the ability to be a floating supervisor when you become a category supervisor. There are also advanced category supervisors. You may have the opportunity to become a senior supervisor, but you have to be a category supervisor first. There are also advanced senior supervisors. Then there are 2 other ranks that volunteer supervisors will be unable obtain since they are only for Community Assistants, and they are paid employees. Functionally, they are like Advanced Senior Supervisors, but with more tools. (I may be wrong in all this because I am not a CA.) There are "minor" CAs and "major" CAs. The minor CAs may be people like interns for Answers, accountants, bookkeepers, technicians, etc. The major CAs would be those who have significant authority and are directly involved with site. From what I understand, there are about 8 different ranks, with 6 of those being open for most who are willing to work their way through the ranks.

If you want to become a supervisor on WikiAnswers do you have to ask and answer questions specifically in the category you want to supervise?

Yes, you need to e-mail them and also you probably need to join the SPA program here on WikiAnswers, which is run by Stupid Little Genius (Link to her profile page in the Related Links section). You also should be familiar with the category you want to supervise.

Can you tell when a user becomes a supervisor?

Yes. If you are not the user who became a supervisor then you can look on their profile and see the 'Floating Supervisor' or 'Category Supervisor'. You can also look in their contributions and see that they are performing supervisor tasks such as trashing and reverting. If you are the user, you can look on your profile for the badge, you should have gotten an email, and you should have an extended blue bar with supervisor options as well as warning and block options.

Do you get to choose what category you want to supervise when you are a supervisor?

Sometimes. If there are already enough supervisors in a given category, you may be able to supervise a sub-category or another category. There are also "floating" supervisors, who are generalists that have basically the same powers as category supervisors, but just help out wherever they're needed.
