You have been asked for your views on punishment in the after-life, with particular reference to Christianity. This can be answered as either that you will be punished or that you will not. The reasons for such belief can vary from saying that since there is no real afterlife we can not be punished after we die, to saying that this is what The Bible teaches. In fact, both extremes should be explored to show that thought has been given to the answer.
Many people today question the truth of Christianity, and say that there is no God and no heaven. They believe that the Bible is not inspired, but that it was written to convert and hold people to the religion of its authors. While the biblical creation was once seen as the defining event that took place around six thousand years ago and proved the existence of God, people now realise that the world is immensely old and that there was no act of Special Creation. With no God to judge us, and no heaven or hell, people who behave badly in this life can not be held accountable in the next.
Others maintain that the Bible is the inspired word of God and is as relevant today as it ever was. They believe that unless those who behave badly in this life are punished in the next, there was no purpose in the crucifixion of Jesus.
