You don't actually have to eat meat to remain healthy, but you do need to eat some proteins. While meat is maybe the easiest source of protein, you can also get protein from fish.
There is protein in some vegetables too, like certain beans and lentils. But it's more diluted and you need to pay more attention to your diet if you want to remain healthy on a vegetarian diet.

Humans have no biological need to consume the flesh or secretions of non-human animals. Legumes, grains, seeds, nuts, and vegetables all have plenty of protein.
