The answer for this would be YES and also No... It would be YES if you format the whole hard disk.. When u format the hard disk completely all the information in it would be erased and u may have to partition it again before installing the Windows(OS).... It would be NO if you formatted only the C: in the system.. The Windows or any OS would by default be stored in C: only, so if u wanna get rid of the existing OS and install a new one, then formatting the C: only would be more then enough..In this way the files, folders etc. in other drives would not be erased... Note : If u format the C: drive alone also the application softwares(office, photoshop, autocad, etc...) would be erased..

What will happen to your computer files if you format?

Unless you back them up your going to lose them. Id recommend you back them up to an external HD. Once you format your computer everything is lost, all your files, all your settings, everything is gone. Though if your only formatting to get rid of private data, don't just assume its gone for good. Youv'e just made it a tad harder to get them that's all. But generally speaking, format your computer and you have lost everything.

Does formating affects computer?

If you format your hard drive, you will likely erase all your data. Sometimes formatting is necessary to reinstall Windows and whatnot. Just make sure you back up everything before you reformat, because everything on your computer will be GONE after you do it! ...Unless you're just formatting a flash drive or MP3 player, then you just lose everything on that particular device. Again, make sure you backup first.

When you have windows and you shutdown your computer will the windows be gone or not?

Yes if you shutdown your computer t closes anything you have open at that time. Usually if I want a window to stay open on mine I will just close it and not do any shutdowns or log offs and it is still there the next time I open my computer.

What can be saved following a computer crash?

There are computer services out there who can retrieve data from your harddrive, if the system is totally gone and you have not reformatted the drive. If the computer just went down, and you can get it to come up again, the document you were working on may either be gone or just partially gone, depending on the last time you saved. Everything else should be okay.

You install Windows XP back on your computer and your music is gone?

When you reinstall XP it deletes pretty much everything off your computer. If you were repairing, you wouldn't have this problem. Every time you repair/install an operating system, be sure to backup your hard drive just in case. Sorry, you won't be getting your music back anytime soon unless you re-download.

Can't format your hard disk?

If the operating system has "booted" from your hard drive, you won't be able to format it. Boot from something else, perhaps the installation CD or some other bootable device then you should be able to format your disk. Just so that you know, if you format your disk you will loose EVERYTHING, programs, pictures, music, documents... all gone after you format the disk! but if you are with recent windows OS like vista.u may not see the hard disk partition to format or install anything.but still u have other choices like "solaris" or "linux" to consider You can format all the harddisk except for the one with windows in it. By setting virtual memory to "no paging file" on the hard disk you wanted to format. Doing that by open "hardware manager" under "Advance" tab, Performance, setting, Advance tab, then click "Change" Then has to restart. Hope this help also don't forget to change it back after formating. It kinda amaze me that noone mention this technic before : )
