If you are an ethical practictioner of magic, you will have done your research, checked your motivation, gathered your materials, acquired permission to do the spell (if you are working on or for another) and worked for the greater good of all. In which case your spell will work, to the degree the universe considers appropriate. There are no real repercussions other than the standard Rule of Three.

If you are dabbling and/or randomly casting spells without the proper, research and knowledge, the spell will work, or not, depending on the how and what the universe chooses, and you will be subject to the Rule of Three.

Generally, you become jittery because of the excess energy that is in your body. Once you ground that extra energy, you become hungry and tired. It is best to eat after preforming a spell, to replenish your own energy.

If you are talking about "Divine Punishment", you are only "punished" if you believe you should be. In my opinion, you shouldn't be doing a spell if you are afraid of DP.
