You must plug your itouch into your computer and when itunes comes up click SYNC. This will download all new information from itunes to your itouch.

First, you have to download itunes on your computer, then hook up your iPod and sych it with your computer. After that, you need to create and register an account to be able to buy Apps. You have to have an account to get free Apps too.
You can go to the app store and browse through categories, and then at the top you have a choice to browse free apps. You can download all of the free apps for free (as long as you have an iTunes account).
The iPod Nano cannot use apps.
All apps are stored on iTunes as well just like music, so if you get a new iPod all the stuff on iTunes will be synced to it, including the apps
