And turtles are not like hermit crabs: they can't leave their shell and find a new one. So, the shell has to grow with the turtle. Consequently, if you routinely overfeed your turtle, it will just keep growing bigger and bigger. As I said, you are only supposed to feed a turtle however much it can eat in a few minutes. So, if there are always leftovers floating around the tank after the feeding, then you are feeding the turtle too much.
