If you show an upward trend the next 3 years, then it should be fine. You also need a competitive SAT score to boost your chances. Some people might find the transition to high school hard their first year, and colleges know this, so show them that you're over the hump and can perform a high level the next 3 years. A cumulative GPA of 3.8+ at the end of your high school career and an SAT score of 1400+ will make you a competitive candidate for an Ivy League school, in terms of stats. You will also need to participate in extracurricular activities, especially gaining leadership positions, to improve your chances. A strong personal essay will also help.

Well, your cumulative GPA is all that really matters (your average GPA over four years of high school) and even Ivy Leagues look for more than just GPA in the application process. The numbers are a little low for an Ivy League school but depending on SAT scores, interviews, essays, and other interesting activities (like, actively volunteering, organizing fundraisers and other events, publishing something, the list goes on and on) can make a huge impact in the admissions process. (Alumni ties don't hurt either...Mr. George Bush...) Also, there are a ton of GREAT schools out there that aren't Ivies, it just depends on your preferences. I'm at a small Liberal Arts school right now, and I'm sure I'm learning just as much as I would have at an Ivy League school. It's not always about the pomp and granduer surrounding a 'brand name.' You can get a positive educational experiences at a number of institutions (plus they might also be a bit less expensive). Good Luck with the college search!

You must show interest by visiting the school. You also have to do as many ec's. Also intern and do summer programs. Get 2200+ on the SAT and 32+ on ACT. AND DON'T WORRY ABOUT YOUR GPA ITS NOT BAD...I'VE EVEN HEARD OF SOMEONE GETTING INTO STANFORD WITH A 3.4 GPA (check out the link).

no. ivy league schools have a reserve amount of admissibilty to which they will look at the 4.0 average first, within the 4.0 students only a handful are selected, 3.5 won't even get you considered unless that year, there were no 4.0 or very little of it.

Answer: A 3.5 could get you into an Ivy league but you would be much better off with a higher GPA. These schools look at more than just gpa. That being said, if you lack in one area you need to compensate in other things. Also, many of these schools compare you to others in your area, so if they get many applicants with gpa's higher than a 3.5 it makes harder to get in. Try to do something that sets you apart from others. It worked for me.

LOL.

Okay, so i had a 2.45 GPA first semester of freshman year. I'm a freshman right now and my second semester is about to end and I'm aiming for a 3.5-3.6 GPA, and I have a 3.34 currently, without any honors classes. I have spoken with counselors, friends, family and educators. The message is clear. Freshman year practically doesn't count. A 3.6 freshman year should be applauded, first of all, especially if your taking upper leveled courses as a freshman. What would your good college standards be? Yale? Maybe not. But UC'S? If you keep it up, you definitely have a chance. If you have close to a 4.0 all years, you're bound to get into a good college. Point is = DON'T WORRY ABOUT COLLEGE NOW. Don't freak out, sophomore year + junior years are the one's that matter, that you must concentrate hardest on. Also, brains don't always only count.

Brains + Athletic Ability + Volunteer Work = Good college.

How played pro baseball without going to college?

You can be drafted by a Major League team straight out of high school-- many people are. After graduating high school, you have to make the choice about whether or not you want to sign or go to college. If you go to college, you can't be drafted again for three years, but if you go to a community or junior college, you can be drafted at any time. Bryce Harper did something highly unusual. After his sophomore year, he earned his GED (a requirement for high school players who want to get drafted), and then dropped out after his junior year. Then, he went to a junior college to play baseball for one year, and made it to the Junior College World Series at the ripe old age of 18. Then he got drafted, and made it to the big leagues before his 20th birthday. This is not common.
