The people in eurup didnt like cats so the rat population got realy high and on of them had a flea with a deses...hence the black PLAGUE.

It originated in France...there were the outdoor markets full of used furniture, clothing, household items and such and then there were the fleas (in the stuff) so it eventually was dubbed a "flea market". Hope this helped!

I would never use any shavings. They have fleas in them. After using them for my mouse he was covered with black bugs. I tried bathing him, using flea treatment, using a flea comb and all that but it didn't work. They ate away at his flesh and even completely bit his ears off until he died. Then my hamster got fleas as well from the shavings, but luckily he recovered. My guinea pig got fleas too and because she ate the shavings, the flea got inside her and drove her crazy from the inside. She scratched and bit all the fur off her back and got big gashes, and was bleeding and in pain all the time. Eventually she got so bad that we had to take her to the vet. She had to get a needle to kill the flea, then had to go back twice to get 2 more. It was awful but it worked and she did get better. Even if your guinea pig doesn't usually eat shavings, the fleas can still get into their food bowl. If I were you I would use paper and shredded paper. It's healthier for the guinea pig, cheaper, and definitely safer.

This answer is wrong Because there was lots of fleas who had the bubonic disease and the fleas lived on the rats then the rats all got killed (in Britain) because everytime a flea bit a rat the rat would die and the fleas were getting hungry so they moved on to humans. The streets were used as sewers in the towns as many people were very poor back then so it attracted alot of rats with the fleas. and when the fleas started to bite people they started to die. The plague stopped in Gravesend Kent which is why it is called gravesend. or so that's what i got told! Many believe that rats carried the black plague when in fact it was the flea the rat carried that actually carried the plague that is how people still got sick locked in a room with no windows is because they would get bit by the fleas (one of the reasons anyways)
