Well, first of all, it's going to be darn hard to push the end of that thing a foot from where it is.

Let's say you just hit the bottom end with a hammer, causing a loud " CLUNGGG ", and then

that sound vibration travels down the pole to the other end.

In order to let it move as fast as possible, let's make the pole out of granite, so the " CLUNGGG "

gets to the other end at the speed of earthquake waves.
