i would not do that, because it causes uncirculated heat in your transfer case and tranny, so its best to have all wheel off the ground

No. You have a 32RH transmission. It is a 3-speed automatic with a lockup torque converter, no overdrive gear.
I was taught that you remove the drive shaft on Automatics that are rear wheel drive. Because towing even in neutral would cause the transmission problem. Perhaps that is why tow truck drivers pull some car rearend first with the steering locked to prevent the "front tire" from turning. Perhaps someone else can chime in and give more details as to good or bad, pros vs cons. Hope This Helps.
There's nothing turning within the transmission until the vehicle is put into motion or put into a gear.
on the transmission
Std. transmission would not have a neutral safety switch - if anything it would have a clutch safety switch located usually at the top of the clutch pedal
put the shifter in neutral for the regular transmission then push forward on the transfer case handle until it is back in the resting position. If the 4wd light does not go out right away it may in a little while, but if it does not come out of 4wd you will have to get it looked at, vacuum is usually the issue.
The transfer case uses ATF.
With the 4.0L it has the AX15 manual transmission.
Should have an automatic belt tensioner - if tension not correct replace tensioner
No, the manual transfer case does not have a 4wd mode display
