I have asthma myself and if I don't have a rescue inhaler or pills, I try my best to breathe slowly and deeply. If that doesn't work, I sip [not drink quicky] ice cold water. This my not be the best answer, but that's what I do and it turns out okay.
You need to check with your vet, they can do more harm than good.
