Scoliosis, if not caught early and corrected with a brace or myoelectric stimulation, can require corrective surgery to halt the progressive worsening.
I the curve is 20 degrees or less you must just watch it, so it doesnt get worse.
If the curve is 20-40 degrees you would need a brace.(it is quite tight)
I the curve is over 40 degrees you would need surgery(an operation).
I've got scoliosis myself and its about seventy degrees, I'm having an operation soon.
(so i know all these things)
ok so another person said the top they did good i just wanted to add a little
when i first went to the doctor for scoliosis i had to get a brace cause my curve was like 26 i think i don't know i was in 4th grade now im going into 7th grade. i wore a brace all the way till i was almost done with 6th grade. my curve was getting worse.
so the doctor told me i had to have surgery cause by that time my curve was around 70 degrees. the day of the surgery i was really nervous they gave me this mask and it put me to sleep when i woke up it felt like i was asleep for 15 minutes but really it was 6 hours. i didnt really think about that much when i woke up though cause i was a little out of it. i had a butten to push that gave me medicine when i needed it. i don't remember much after that mask was put on my face. i don't even remember going to my room in the hospital. but i remember my room mate was a baby screaming and crying lol. by the third day they had me walking i didnt like to do it but they made me so i could get out of the hospital as soon as possible. i was out of the hospital by the 5th day! i went home and i remember my brother and sister made me a welcome home banner and gave me a basket full of snacks and movies! a couple of weeks later i had my teacher come in to teach me an hour a day i didnt go back to school till like a month and a half later. but then by like July 10th i was doing feild day at school! now it has almost been 6 months and i am dancing and swimming and everything. so that is a short story of what i had to go threw with scoliosis but everyone is diffrent so you might not need surgery.
If done correctly, yes.
If you broke your spine with or without scoliosis you will need spine surgery. You will also need to take physical therapy to help strengthen your spine after the surgery.
After scoliosis surgery, it depends where they fused/placed the rods/screws...I had scoliosis surgery and I can crack the TOP half of my spine, but, the screws are at the bottom of my back and I am unable to crack it there. :)
surgery
it stunts your growth from your back...your legs can still grow. i had spinal fusion surgery(for scoliosis)

My sister has scoliosis and asked me to see if there where and NO!
I have talked to my doctor and have asked the same question. The rods for scoliosis must be left in for your entire life. they will never be removed. He also said that the rods are not uncomfortable, so you do not notice that they are even there. However, you may loose a bit of flexibility from scoliosis surgery.
I was 18 months old when I had my first operation of scoliosis however mine was a bad case of scoliosis.
Of course they can!
Well I might not be correct, but I do have scoliosis and I believe it is for the measurement of the spine, of course math would be necessary to measure that during the surgery.
yes, if it is about 50 degrees or more
