yes but older cars put up with more abuse like this than new cars with computers etc
so there is a good chance everything is ok if it wasnt on for long
it has something to do with the electrical current pssing through the wires to the battery
It can be done! Or if you buy a new battery, most auto parts store install for free. If you want to do it, Positive to plus. Negaitive to minus. Just dont put it in backwards, you'll make a mess, and fry something.
On some if you put the battery in backwards the clock will run backwards.
you possibly have something draining the battery when the car is shut off, with the car shut off pull the positive cable off the battery and then just touch the cable to the positive post of the battery and see if you get a spark, if you get a spark you have something electrical draining the battery.
You cannot charge it connected backwards. You will destroy the battery.
Connecting a battery charger backwards to a battery will likely kill the battery, depending on how long the power is attached.
When replacing the battery on my son's Kawasaki Vulcan 500, I accidentally hooked up the battery backwards. I had purchased an EverStart battery from Wal-Mart and the orientation of the main battery terminals was backwards from the original battery. Anyway, it blew the main fuse located in the left hand side side cover.
something hoe
The ammeter will only read when connected properly. If the meter is connected backwards, then the meter reads the wrong way. If it is a digital ammeter then it may not work at all.
They most likely have something in the middle to keep them seperated.
Damage to the alternatoron both can occur and permanent damage to the batterries also can occur. Always be sure of +positive to +positive and -negative to -negative if unsure do not attempt to jump vehical it can be a costly mistake It can "fry" the alternator, the computers, wiring, fuses, and the battery.
it will arch out and melt the knobs on your battery and your cables
