A:Much of belief about hell is entirely irrational. To burn, or even to feel pain, you must have a physical body, but we all know that our bodies either lie buried in the ground or have been cremated (burnt). Whatever punishments people choose to believe exist in hell, it is hard to give credence to literally burning in hell.
