A little, but not really enough to worry about. If you ride when it's muddy and/or dusty, then rim brakes will cause a bit of wear on the rims. But it'll take thousands of miles before the rims are used up. Only thing is that if your rims are colored, you can wear through into bare metal along the brake track fairly soon.

They work on my 2009 Highlander (17" wheels) beautifully.
