Blood drug tests do not test for presence of narcotics in your blood. The tests measure trace amounts which suggest you have been using it. The test minimum limit exists to avoid accusing people of using drugs when they might just have been exposed unknowingly and maybe without effect to a drug. Simply put they only test to see if you have enough amount of it left in your blood to suggest you have purposefully abused an illegal drug. If you have smoked within a couple of weeks since your test it will probably show up positive. If you smoke every day it will take more than a couple of weeks to lower the amount residing in your blood to below the minimum limit. You say you've been smoking rarely, if that's to mean you've been smoking once a week you could probably pass a blood test within 3 weeks of the last time you have smoked. Abusing drugs is not only dangerous to your health it is criminal and incredibly stupid if you are underaged. Just think of your parents having to come drag their kid out of jail because he got caught smoking a doobie and you'll have more sense than that.
Someone who smokes occasionally - or for the first time - will likely test positive for 1-3 days afterward, according to a review by the National Drug Court Institute (NDCI).
If you inhale secondary smoke it will show a positive because you have inhaled the smoke.
