If you run your Cadillac eldorado etc for 3500 rpm for 5 minutes and car gets hot is that a sign of a bad head gasket?

The Northstar is a good motor, but they do blow head gaskets some times. If the coolant is going above about 230 degrees, or if you are having problems keeping the coolant filled, it sounds like you need head gaskets. The problem is caused by old coolant corroding the head bolt threads out of the block, and the head bolts pull out, releasing the clamping force on the gaskets.
Have a garage check the coolant for exhaust gas - this is the best way to diagnose the problem.

alot of time and money an engine isn't cheap I have checked it for my 1994 Eldorado with some engine rebuild companies in the Greater Toronto area, and the quotes I have gotten range from 3500 - 4000 CAD. Includes all parts and labour, but need to add HST. I'm starting to look at it because to replace the oil pan gasket and to repair a problem with loss of vacuum pressure, I'm already looking at over $3000.
