If this happens you should contact the Poison Control Center, but most hand sanitizers only contain the active ingredient of ethyl alcohol which is "drinking" alcohol and will likely not kill an adult. Do not intentionally swallow it or, as some people have done, ... do not gargle with it ... instead use Listerine or another brand of mouthwash for that, it is also mostly alcohol but is made to be in the mouth instead of on skin.
