If you want to spank your 13 year old daughter who has never been spanked before how should you approach her?

You shouldn't in my opinion. That is considered negative re-enforcement. I have 4 children and not once used corporal punishment (hitting). I believe in positive re-enforcement. In short (in your instance) I would 1st find out whats important to her(ie. cell phone, computer etc.) and remove it from her. Let her know that that until her attitude changes it will stay gone. 2nd Offer her ways to get it back faster (ie. helping with extra choirs around the house.) I have 4 children, 2 are adults with no children (1 age 21 with 2 college degree's and a promising career. The other 23, married and in college. This does work, but you the parent cannot be lazy. Corporal punishment is for lazy parenting, like letting the television watch your children. I mean really. What can you expect?

∙ 14y ago....Not at all. If you're having to result to spanking your 15 year old then something is really wrong. At 15 she's old enough to understand verbal reasoning and you should learn to communicate with her respectfully. Sit down and have a proper conversation with her, make sure you listen to her point of view and remember that she's nearly an adult! Help guide her to the behavior you want from her, if you spank her like a toddler she'll probably continue to act like one!
