Meteorites can be found anywhere since a metorite falls have an equal chance of ocurring at all locations on Earth. However, unless you are knowlegeable of metorites, you will have difficulty telling them apart from ordinary rocks. One good way to look for them is in a place here there normally are not rocks on the surface. Some of these areas include the southern plains of theUnited States and on top of ice sheets.

Anywhere, but you have to know how to recognize them. In many cases, they're "just rocks".

But there are some places where "just rocks" are a little unusual; like the Outback of Australia, or Antarctica. In places like that, it can be a little easier to recognize a meteorite for what it is.

Meteorites fall on every part of the Earth every day and night.

If one is interested is when and where a particularly dramatic observation was made, the American Meteorite Society has been keeping logs that can be accesses through their website. (See related links.)

The things one sees at night as bright streaks in the sky are called meteors. One can see these on a clear night almost any day of the year with a little patience, but a few times a year they come in great abundance and are known as meteor showers which can be seen everywhere on Earth, usually for several days.

One gives the name meteorite to any meteor that survives passing through the atmosphere of Earth and reaching the ground. A meteorite is rarely larger than a pebble, but even small meteorites can make a dramatic show called a "Fireball."

The information at the American Meteorite Society website will aid an individual who wishes to learn of reports of the more dramatic sitings of meteors, fireballs and meteorites.

You would find meteoroids in space. Meteoroids are small pieces of rock that orbit the sun. Meteorites, which are meteoroids that have fallen to earth, can be found pretty much anywhere, but the best places to look would be in sandy or ice-covered areas with few native rocks.

We typically see comets only when they are "close" to the Sun. But "close" is a relative term; many comets are visible once they get as close to the Sun as Jupiter is. As they fall in toward the Sun, they speed up, and HEAT up; that heating by sunlight is what causes the sublimation of the frozen gasses in the comet, which carries away a little of the comet's dust. The dusty gas catches the glow of the Sun, and that's when the comet becomes visible.

But comets spend most of their time far away from the Sun, moving very slowly out in the deep cold of space.

Meteors are asteroids that have entered the atmosphere. Normally small, they burn up and fragment on the way toward the ground, leaving bright trails of light and dust in the air. During certain times of the year, the earth crosses trails of rocks and dust debris left behind by passing comets whose orbits come near the orbit of the earth. As the earth collides with this material, it falls through the atmosphere en masse, becoming meteors that can be seen every few minutes or so. These events are called meteor showers, and are a good time to go outside and look up.

If a meteor is large enough that part of it survives the journey through the air and falls to the ground, the rock that remains is called a meteorite. On rare occasions, large asteroids can become meteors and cause massive changes to the atmosphere and surface. The classic example is the Chicxulub impactor that is believed to be responsible for the extinctions recorded at the boundary of the Cretaceous and Tertiary periods of geological history.

So, to answer the question of "where," meteors are found in the atmospheres of planets with which they are colliding.

They could be anywhere! Since one rock looks very much like another rock, it's sometimes difficult to recognize meteorites. If they fall in the ocean (the Earth is 3/4 covered with water!) then you probably won't find it. If it falls in the woods, it'll probably be hidden by trees and bushes.

A lot of meteorites are found in the desert (no bushes or foliage to hide them), in Australia (which also has a lot of desert) and in Antarctica. When the land is covered by several thousand feet of ice, stray rocks on top of the ice are quite likely to be meteorites.

Because of the wide range of their orbital periods, comets can be found in a number of places in the Solar System.

Short period comets usually depart from the area of Kuiper Belt.

Long period comets usually depart from the Oort Cloud on the boundaries of the Solar System.

The comets themselves can be found anywhere along their orbits. The orbits are different for each of the comets. The exact position of a given comet depends on its orbit and time.

Some comets do not have stable orbits and are thrown out into interstellar space after making only one pass.

They are meteor remains found on the surface of planets and moons, especially those on Earth. Meteorites have been found all over the world, and many are found in the Antarctic, where they have been embedded in glaciers for thousands of years without being affected by the elements. Others are found on prairies such as the Great Plains of the US, where ordinary rocks and boulders are less frequently seen on the surface.

Is it possible to hang a building from an asteroid?

Not quite sure what you mean with hang from it; the asteroid would attract the building (much less so than Earth does, but still), so the asteroid would be "downward" for anybody close to the asteroid. In principle there is no reason why you couldn't build something on an asteroid, but that would not "hang... from the asteroid".
