As this question was originally asked on 21 December 2011, you would have conceived five weeks two days ago on 14 November 2011.
Just to be as complete as possible, the question was answered today, Tuesday 17 January 2012. Five weeks two days ago was Sunday 11 December 2011.

Your hunch is right; the ultrasound date is based on the day your last period ended. So, on average, the 40 week pregnancy begins two weeks before conception has even occured.
