It can. Backfires are caused by raw fuel in the exhaust pipe and lit off by hot gases from the cylinders. If enough fuel enters the exhaust system and the muffler or catalytic converter, it can cause enough pressure once lit to split pipes and mufflers.
exhaust leak
Your car backfires when you need a new transmission,or tune up. How do you know the difference? Simple...if your car backfires then wont start, or wont start and then backfires, you need a transmission. If it backfires, and then starts moments after, you need a tune-up. Glad to help...David
i think the computer need to be reprogram
the seat on the exhaust valve is dirty so the valve does not seal it.... not sure how to clean it
Sounds like the timing is off.

my car starts every now and again, but when it does start it turns off and then it backfires. i dont know if it is the fuel pump or the sparkplugs or both, please help me find the problem.
Your timing belt has probably worn out, or broken, and has jumped timing.
Time for a tune up.
Too Lean. Bump up fuel pressure.
It backfires because if you are going high speed and then suddenly let off the gas the extra gas that is flowing in has to come out some time another way it backfires is that something on the exhaust or carbeurator is loose or is missing something.
there is always exhaust (expect when the engine's off or hybird) unless you are too close to the car in front of you.
